Natural filter and Sand Stirrer These are very hardy clams and are very well suited for the home saltwater aquarium.They burrow into the sand, therefore, stirring the sand as they burrow. They are almost constantly filtering the water through two siphon tubes. One takes the water in and the other lets it out. They consume algae and floating waste in the water. They will help to constantly keep your water clean, just as they do in nature.They can tolerate water temperatures just above freezing to about 90 degrees. These clams are very attractive as you can tell from the picture. Many have a beautiful pattern on the shell. They are hard-working and long-lived. Clams can reportedly live for more than 20 years. They can grow to approximately 1 inch in a years time and much larger with time, with adequate food. For large tanks, you might want to consider buying several of the different sizes that we sell.
