Continental 18th Century Pine schrank with domed top.  For more than 250 years this item was used for different purposes and during this period was fixed and altered several times in order to please it’s owners.    Originally the schrank was painted a green color with Northern Star decorations on the panels but we received it already stripped and only a few specks of green paint left in the cracks would remind you of it.             One panel has a contour of the Northern Star, developed as the result of a chemical reaction of paint on freshly cut wood. Even though the original painting was lost through the centuries along with the name of the artist who decorated this item the shadow of this Star remains. A little miracle… The pine turned darker with time and was sealed and polished with bee wax for soft luster, revealing some time marks including some amount of bug holes appropriate for the age of this item. However, we guarantee that now it is problem free because we fumigate all our furniture twice - before we put it into the container and upon delivery to US.   The other panels just reveal clear pine wood of rich honey color with darker veins.   Most of the people are looking for this type of item to use it as an entertainment center and once it probably served this purpose because a round hole is drilled in the back panel for electrical wires, but if you want to install a large size screen TV you may need to do some alteration. There is a possibility to remove the central divider which separates the shrank right in a middle and attach it to the left door, in this case both doors can be open wide to reveal a huge area about 51 1/8” wide x 50 1/8” tall. These square dimensions of the opening without the side pockets and arched top and since most of TV’s are constructed in a way that they have a speakers from both sides which can fit into these pockets, your TV set could be up to 66” wide in this case only the screen will be visible but speakers will be partially or fully covered. Inner dimensions of the shrunk from side to side about 66” wide x 70” high at the tallest point . The shelves inside of the schrank are about 20 ½” deep and a flat screen TV will fit without any problems. If you have a regular large screen TV the back panels can be removed and if you put your entertainment center in the corner of the room, virtually any TV set will fit there without the back panel. Placed between two walls in a corner 73” wide schrank will leave behind it a triangle with plenty of room for regular large screen TV which has extension on the back. Domed area on the top will provide enough of ventilation even if TV fits tight. Even though the center part is raised the top has two flat sides, about 10” wide, which can be used as a shelf for potted plants or artifacts.   The two bottom drawers give you additional storage for small items.   When the doors are open they show nice original wrought iron hardware and look very attractive, unlike many other antique armoires which have a rough unfinished backside of the doors.    Six heavy solid pine bun feet are not original to this item and replaced the original ones which were damaged, copying them in shape, size, and material.  Some hardware is not original as well, for instance the lock is a later replacement but has a period key and works just fine.   However, the hinges and latches are original to this item.  Three shelves and shelf supports also are not original to this item but were made to fit and aged so that they would not stand out and look old.   These shelves are fully adjustable, you can set them to any height that you want or completely remove them.   The schrank is too heavy and bulky to be moved as one piece and was originally constructed in a way so that you can take it apart for relocation. It comes apart as a puzzle with two sides along with the doors, top and bottom, two pieces from the back and one front panel.   All pieces are held together with wooden wedges but since the wood has shrunk with time and for extra strength we recommend a few extra screws for a perfect fit. The total dimensions of the schrank are about 88 ½” tall 73 ¾” wide at the widest point and about 24 ½” deep from the back to the front of the bun feet.   The item will be shipped in pieces and may require an experienced handyman to put it together and tighten it up as well as a professional carpenter’s help if you need an adjustments in order to remove the front divider.  We will provide FREE delivery only with the "BUY IT NOW" option.
