Brazilian Cherry rates at more than twice the hardness of teak, and has been used in decking, playground equipment, railroad crossties, marine and other outdoor applications for many years due to its density and superior weather resistant qualities. If the grey tone is preferred, no maintenance is necessary. If the red color is preferred, it can be restored by sanding or power-washing, followed by an application of linseed oil. Your furniture may also be painted if desired (teak, by comparison, cannot be painted). We recommend sanding thoroughly, and then applying an oil-based exterior paint. If used indoors, the linseed oil makes a beautiful stain lustre look, which deepens over time - the color will not fade as it does untreated outdoors.       Note on Painted Finishes: If you order a painted finish, please know that although we use a top-grade exterior paint, all paints weather outdoors and are subject to the natural expansion and contraction of the wood underneath.  This movement causes very minor checking in the finish over time and is not a defect.  These are most noticeable on white piece.  Also, painted finishes have more chance of being rubbed or scratched in shipping, so if you receive a piece with such marks, we will provide you with touch-up paint rather than a new piecer.     Why do I want a Weatherproof Piece? Most outdoor furniture sold today is not weatherproof - it is usually made of oak, ash, hickory, or other woods that must remain finished in order not to rot. Those finishes cannot withstand outdoor conditions indefinitely, and so most pieces have a limited lifespan on an outside porch. Other than those made of teak or other dense, oil-rich tropical woods, virtually no outdoor furniture available today can be left unprotected in the sun and rain.
