Repels and kills    mosquitoes before they @Advantix can be used on pregnant and lactating bitches.  There will be no need to treat puppies under 8 weeks if the mother is treated due to proximity. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE ENVIRONMENT: It is important to treat the environment of you pet for fleas.  It can take up to 3 months to break the flea cycle, especially when you are just starting a topical for the season and you have not treated the environment.  I have called the 1-800 numbers for Frontline, Advantage, and Advantix; and the vet techs on the other end all say the same thing.  If you do not treat the environment, the fleas will continue to hatch and jump on your pet.  The fleas will then die, but newly hatched fleas will jump on.  This will have the appearance that the topical medicine is not working.  There are several things you can do; some easier than others. 1. Vacuum often.  Vacuuming gets rid of many adult and some eggs.  It stimulates the dormant eggs to hatch, thus shortening the flea cycle.  This is the single best and non-toxic thing you can do (other than use a topical medicine). 2. Wash all bedding regularly. 3. Sweep. 4. Apply topical 2 days after a bath. 5. Treat all animals in your household. 6. Treat all year round. 7. Treat your yard if you have an outside pet.  You can try straight diatomaceous earth which is supposed to puncture the exoskeleton of the flea and kill it.  Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occuring substance that you should be able to get from a local hardware store. 8. Don't allow untreated pets to stay with yours.
