Description
gmroi Store Large Vintage 1869 Working Apple Cider/Wine Press Search Description Available for Local Pick-Up only, this is a large somewhat commercial sized vintage "Buckeye" apple press manufactured by P.P Mast and Company of Springfield, Ohio and is dated 1869. It is in working condition and was used up until a few years ago. (However, keep in mind that it is 140 years old) I do not have immediate convenient access to this press, so if you have any questions, it may take me a little time to get the answers but I'll do my best to answer them quickly. The press was and is stored inside when not in use and comes with the buckets you see in the auction pics as well. There is a crack in the upper corner of the gearbox ("supersize" the 4th picture for a better look) If you'd like to look inside the top of the hopper down into the gearbox, take a look at 2 additional pictures located at the following web addresses: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/7/8/6/3/0/webimg/154673886_o.jpg http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/7/8/6/3/0/webimg/154673953_o.jpg Some historical facts about P.P. Mast & Company: P.P. Mast and Company, of Springfield, Ohio was another member of the American Seeding merger. This company was formed in 1856 by John Thomas and P.P. Mast, under the name Thomas and Mast. They built grain drills and cider presses, but during the 1860s they expanded their manufacturing line by introducing cultivators and other implements. During 1871 Thomas and Mast dissolved their partnership, being then known as P.P. Mast and Company. This company built the Buckeye Drill. Some measurements to help give you a sense of perspective:5' 9" tallThe gears on the crank are 9" in diameterThe flywheel is 22 1/2 inches in diameterThe hopper throat is 9"x9"Weighs about 200# plus as it sits (it's a 2 man lift....maybe 3 men) If you would like a better look at anything, please click on the "supersize" link under the auction photos to see them full size. On the side of the hopper the patent dates are listed as May 1855, Feb. of 1864 and November of 1865. This item is located near exit 131 off I-75 in the Clio, Michigan area (about an hour North of Detroit) and is being offered for local pick-up only. Please don't ask if I can ship or disassemble the item as I am not available for hire in that respect. Any shipping will have to be handled on your end with your carrier.
