The term Pietre Dura, or Pietra Dure in plural form, is used by Italians to describe hard stone. While Italians call this artistry Pietra Dure, the English term commonly used is Florentine mosaic. As shown in the pictures, the top of this stunning table is made of intricately inlaid marble with many semi-precious stones. This artistry dates first appears in Rome in the 1500's and reaches it's full potential in Florence. As an artist medium, it descends from the Byzantine mosaic's in their tendency to use precious and semi-precious stones. It takes approximately one full year for the craftsmen to complete this unbelievable table. The flowing design on the table includes beautiful foliage of vines, leaves and flowers, birds, lizards, Flor de leis, and much more. Semi-precious stones typically used in these tables are Agate, Amethyst, Blue and Green Aventurine, Cornelian, Jasper, Lapis-Lazuli, Malachite, Moss-Agate, Sodalite, Tiger's Eye, Serpentine, Sugilite, Ruby, Chalcedony, Lace-Agate, Chrysocolla, Hematite, and  Onyx-Marble. The base of the table is also made of two marble pedestals. It takes approximately one year for the highly skilled craftsmen to create one of these custom tables. This one in particular has been owned in a private estate in Florida. The age of this table is not known, though it is in perfect condition. The table top measures 9' x 4', and weighs approximately 1,500 lbs. The base also weighs approximately 1,500 lbs. This table will have to be professionally moved. Details can be worked out via email.
