We are a small, two person business and we have been making individually crafted items together for over a decade. We have made this journal from a  rugged dark brown leather, as you can see in the picture, the colour varies over the surface of the book. It also has small marks and creases, which add to it's rugged charm. The type of leather is known as 'Crazy Horse'. If you think that you recognise it, it's probably because you've had a pair of boots made from it, it's a favourite with footware manufacturers. It's a really tough, hard-wearing leather which resists water, even scratches can be removed by rubbing the surface with your finger. This is the sort of journal that you can throw in your rucksack without worrying too much about it. The wraparound cover encloses the paper and is held in place with thonging that we make from the same leather. It is approximately 16cm x 11cm x 3cm (6.25 x 4.25 x 1.25 inches) and contains approximately 200 pages (400 sides) of A6 sized, recycled, paper. The paper that we use is a natural, off-white, oatmeal colour with faint flecks. It has a matt appearance and is slightly textured. It takes a fountain pen without 'bleeding' and is a good mid-tone for sketching.It is 100% recycled from partly de-inked, post consumer waste and has achieved both the Nordic Swan and Blue Angel awards for high environmental standards. It is also classified as DIN 6738, which means that it will last for several hundred years. This is great if you're planning on leaving your words for future generations. The paper is held in place with our special waxed cord binding and is permanently bound.  It makes a wonderful journal; diary; sketchbook; notebook; etc. This is the earthy alternative to the mass produced books generally available. This makes a unique gift, and is the perfect size to take on your travels. As leather is a  natural material the tone and grain of each journal may vary from the image shown.
