We are a small, two person business and we have been making individually crafted items together for over a decade. We have made this journal from a sturdy full-grain leather. We call this one 'Utility' as it's the type of leather that some tool belts are made from, very tough, very sturdy, with the emphasis on practicality. Some parts of the hide have natural scars and markings and some parts have darker coloured speckling from the tanning process, making each book look already well-travelled and unique. Because of the type of finish used, this leather has excellent 'recovery', which means that it is very tough and even scratches can be removed by rubbing the surface of the leather with your finger. This makes it an excellent journal to take on your travels and it's worn in appearance will only improve the more times you throw it in your rucksack. The wraparound cover encloses the paper and is held in place with thonging that we make from the same leather. It is approximately 16cm x 11cm x 3cm (6.25 x 4.25 x 1.25 inches) and contains approximately 200 pages (400 sides) of A6 sized, recycled, paper. The paper that we use is a natural, off-white, oatmeal colour with faint flecks. It has a matt appearance and is slightly textured. It takes a fountain pen without 'bleeding' and is a good mid-tone for sketching.It is 100% recycled from partly de-inked, post consumer waste and has achieved both the Nordic Swan and Blue Angel awards for high environmental standards. It is also classified as DIN 6738, which means that it will last for several hundred years. This is great if you're planning on leaving your words for future generations. The paper is held in place with our special waxed cord binding and is permanently bound. It makes a wonderful journal; diary; sketchbook; notebook; etc. This is the earthy alternative to the mass produced books generally available. This makes a unique gift, and is the perfect size to take on your travels. As leather is a  natural material the tone and grain of each journal may vary from the image shown.
