Lifting him from his wooden stool reveals a metal tray that has a light scorch mark. The smoke from the incense would trail through his hollow torso to his open pipe. Utterly charming, he is exceptionally clean, unjointed and without damage. He sits holding a knife in one hand and a carved toy horse in his lap. On the wooden base behind him, are two completed wooden animals. He comes with his original box that reads at least in part; MADE IN GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC. There is also a paper label beneath the base that additionally reads; ERZGEBIRGISCHE VOLKSKUNST. I would date him to the 1980's as the GDR was renamed in 1990.
