Description
I purchased this 2000/2001 Toro 455-D Diesel mower last summer from a golf course in New Jersey, and have put almost two seasons on it. It now has just 2490 hours. I use it two or three days a week, a total of about 4 hours per week on my yard. It starts great, and I start it every couple of weeks in the winter, and it starts fine then also. I'm selling because I had really bought it as a temporary measure before saving enough to buy a new machine, which will arrive this week. It really does an impressive job mowing; as you can see from the pictures, I have quite a large lawn (more than you can see in the photos) and I like to keep it looking like a golf course all of the time. It will turn on a dime (literally) and leaves no uncut grass on a 180 degree turn, so you will find that it will trim around trees and obstructions better than most mowers. It is comfortable to operate with tilt wheel, twin armrests and easy access controls. It has a transport mode that is quite fast. I have Gator blades on it and have been very happy with them... they have a lot of life left on them. The tires are all in pretty good shape. I have one spare wing deck belt; the belts on the mower are all good, one replaced this summer. The engine oil, filter and coolant were changed recently. I have the full shop manual for the machine, and it is in a 3 ring binder in plastic protective sheets. You can see it in action at my house by clicking on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y-C-0QQx8k The mower has 2490 hours, so it does have some things that you may want to fix... they just don't bother me and don't affect my operation of the mower, and were all like this when I bought the machine: (not that the seller told me about them all though!... I just want the new owner to know what I know) The seat has a crack on the left side where the back meets the bottom; It doesn't show in the pictures as it is still relatively small, but it is cracked there. It is a 4WD machine that operates on demand when the front wheels spin, the rear wheels are engaged. The electric solenoid that turns on the rear wheels sticks in the 2WD position. I could help it into 4WD position but not in normal operation (when your on the seat!) It might just need a cleaning, but I priced a new solenoid from Toro at $134.54, but didn't replace it because even on my hilly property, I don't need it. The traction circuit works as it should, the voltage does go to the solenoid to switch it in, but it just sticks. The gas gauge isn't very accurate; from empty 5 gallons gets it above the red line, another 5 takes it to full; There is a mower deck "lock" on the wings that allows the deck to pivot out of the way if it strikes something. The left side lock sometimes closes when that deck is raised, and requires a manual flip with a screwdriver to return to the proper position. It is very readily accessible and takes 2 seconds to flip it; I usually check it before I start mowing and flip it if need be and don't have to worry about it until the next time I pull it out of the barn. I priced the Toro replacement lock at $48, but I really didn't mind that I had to flip it myself sometimes, so didn't replace it. There are basically no brakes. I didn't realize it for a while when I bought it, as it is hydrostatic, so they aren't needed in normal operation as the hydro takes care of everything. I learned that they were gone only when I parked it on a hill to power-wash the underside of the decks and it wanted to creep backwards. I didn't look into putting new pads in because I just don't use the brakes at all. (I presume the pads are just worn, as the mechanisms all look perfect going into the drums on both sides) So, it is a good machine, and for somewhere about $300 you could get the 4WD and brakes and deck locks back to perfect if you needed to. The pricing of these mowers with ~2500hrs seems to be in the 10K to 14K range. Since you may want to spend a little on the solenoid/brakes/deck lock, I'm starting the auction at 8K, selling in AS-IS condition, and going no reserve as my new machine will be here before the auction is over. If you like what you see here and don't want to risk losing it in the auction, I've set the buy it now at 12K, right about in the low to middle range of what similar machines have sold for this year. I'm located in Owego, NY 13827; right off of State Route 17 (or I86) and not far from Interstate 81. While I don't offer shipping, if required, I can work with the shipper of your choice to get it loaded. Thanks for looking, and good luck. The Width of Cut is 10.5' with all three decks down. you can mow with either or both wings up as well, so you can get approx 5', 8', 11' (rounding up) depending on what you are doing. It is so maneuverable, that I actually keep all three down all the time, but if you have some tight spots, just raise a deck and it folds neatly to the side to give you the clearance you need.
