This Tabriz rug is a handmade Persian rug from the city of Tabriz is Iran. Completed in early 2008, it was shipped to me upon completion. The design is called "Gombardeh", which refers to the dome shaped pattern often seen in mosques. The colors are such that they compliment one another and a great deal of effort was made to have the patterns in a perfectly symmetric manner. All of my Tabriz rugs are at least full 50 raj, which puts them in the high quality range. This Tabriz rug features very soft Kurkwool with silk highlights and has no flaws of any kind. I'm very particular about the rugs I offer and if you look at my other auctions and galleries, you will see that I do not overstate their qualities and I only deal in high end Persian rugs with a specialty in Tabriz rugs. This design is very popular with my clients and I typically only receive a couple of large round pieces at a time and they sell very quickly due to their uniqueness and value. In fact, I had a slightly smaller 7' piece that sold the same week that it arrived. Most round rugs tend to be smaller and this dome shaped design is far more common the 7' range. The weaver also added his signature to the rug and it is one of several pieces that I have purchased from him. His name is Jafari and his specialty is round Gonbad pieces. As you can see in the close-ups, he also worked over the edge of the rug and knotted the kelim around the entire rug, which is also very rare in Persian rugs. The quality is such that it will be perfect for any area of the house and will definitely be a centerpiece. If you have a formal room or any area of the house and want to make a very elegant impression, then this is it. Despite it's quality, it is perfectly fine for everyday use and is meant to last a lifetime. Clients who have purchased these type of rugs keep telling me just how many compliments they receive from visitors. Large round Tabriz rugs like this piece are a bit of a rarity and the design is just perfect for the round shape. If you are lucky enough to find one at a retailer, you can look at spending well over $8500.00 for a piece in this size alone.
